Back to school

I took a break from posting but now I am back since school my kids are in school.

This is the time of year a lot of kids start thinking about trying out a new instrument. That is certainly when I got interested in playing. And why not? They are able to join band with their friends. And what kid doesn’t like to explore strange sounds?

I loved being in band. It was exciting to be a part of big group. Even though there were a lot of squeeks and honks at the beginning it was fun to think I was playing music that I had heard before.

I have taught a few years as an elementary band teacher. The kids get really excited to make sound out of their instruments. We play games to teach rhythm and notes. It is really hard to give each child and each instrument the attention and instruction they need when dealing with a lot of kids though. Especially flute players. I have also found the flute is just about the hardest of the band instruments to get sound out of. Extra private instruction is extremely helpful for the success of a flute player.
