Music, a way to communicate!

Music is more than just learning notes on a page or learning how to play notes in time. Music should move, inspire, and express inner feelings. How boring it would be to go to a rock concert and where the band just stood still and played notes or attend a symphony where there were no […]

Flute and yoga

I love to play the flute and love to express myself through playing my flute. I get very nervous in front of people though. Tense muscles and shallow breathing are major obstacles for flute players that perform. I have added yoga to my techniques to relax and calm myself before playing my flute. Yoga relaxes […]

Active listening and music

I went to the flute festival on Saturday and learned all about Dalcroze Eurhythmics. When I first heard that I said, “What?” Dalcroze education is an experiential way of knowing music through the body. We talked about active listening. Rhythm

“I’ve got rhythm. I’ve got music. I’ve got my girl. Who could ask for anything more?” – music by George Gershwin. Rhythm is a necessary part of music. This summer I purchased some rhythm sticks that I am using to teach rhythm to my elementary band class and flute students. Music is often a conversation between different people. […]

Back from Camping!

I am back from camping and am ready to resume lessons. I will need to change my Friday evening lessons due to my daughter’s dance recital. In case anyone wants to know, I did enjoy pickle pie and hiking around Capitol Reef!

My husband accompanies me on the piano. My five-year-old turns on the radio full blast just about every […]
